This is not strictly true according to the LyX web site, http://www.lyx.org/, which calls it WYSIWY M, as in ``what you see is what you mean.'' This is more appropriate for our purposes, since presentation is separated from content; nevertheless, the on-screen rendering gives the author a visual indicator about how the document is organized.
