Data Repository

This chapter 4.1describes how to install and contribute to the AIPS++ data repository.

The AIPS++ data repository contains all of the standard global data used internally by AIPS++. This data was separated from the main code tree because it greatly increased the volume of the AIPS++ source distributions.

The intended audience for this repository includes both AIPS++ developers who use data to implement their applications and users who access standard catalogs and images which are components of the repository. The data is typically provided as AIPS++ tables, but some data is provided as FITS files. Other data formats may also be included for the purposes of testing conversion procedures, e.g. filling non-FITS correlator data.

In the future, the goal is that components of the repository can be automatically mirrored to the user's personal workspace when they are not available in the the local AIPS++ installation. This will minimize the amount of data which all sites must keep locally while making the entire repository available to users.
