Version 1.9 Build 1556 |
|
This chapter 2.1describes how to install AIPS++.
The installation of end-user (production-line) and AIPS++ consortium (code-development) systems are sufficiently different that separate instructions are provided for each.
If you contemplate installing AIPS++ for the Linux operating system using the GNU ``binutils'' package (e.g. ar, ld), then you should be aware that there is a bug in handling large archive (.a) files in versions 2.7 (and earlier). You can find out what version of binutils you have by running ar -V. If it is the incorrect version, either upgrade to version 2.8 (or later) or contact aips2-request@nrao.edu for a patch (all that is required is to change the #if 1 that occurs at about line 823 of bfd/archive.c to #if 0).
